Antique English Oak Barley Twist Carved Desk, Library Table C.1880.
Fantastic heavily carved antique English oak desk or library table dating back to the late 1800's. This would also make a great card or game table.
This amazing desk features intricately hand carved foliage to the apron with a hand carved face protruding on each corner. The face on the front is actually the handle to the hidden drawer and this face is repeated on the back.
The desk top features a godroon carved edge which is typical of this era. The green felt is in great shape even though it isn't original and it probably had a leather top originally.
It stands on chunky barley twist legs with a carved barley twist H stretcher for added stability and support.
There is minor wear throughout and a small split in the top due to climate change causing movement in the wood which is only normal in old solid wood furniture. All of this can be seen in the pictures and only adds to its character and charm.
Over all this amazing desk is in solid, sturdy condition with minor age appropriate flaws.
Dimensions: width 47 1/4", depth 28 1/2", total height 28 1/2", height to under side (leg room) 22".
