Antique Tea Cup, Saucer & Side Plate Trio, Gaudy Welsh, 19th C.
Charming Gaudy Welsh cup, saucer and side plate trio, imported from England. This folksy, unpretentious pottery was originally made in England and Wales between 1820 and 1860 for working class families and was not made to be perfect. It was thick and coarse, full of pitting and woefully out of shape.
Today it is highly collectible and this pretty trio is a fine example. It displays hand painted decoration in cobalt blue, burnt orange with touches of copper luster and pink luster on a white background.
There are a couple of hairline cracks on the inside of the cup and some minor scratches to the saucer where the cup sits on it, but no other damage or repairs. It has all the characteristic flaws you would expect to find which are shown in the pictures and only add to it's whimsical charm.
Dimensions: cup height 2 3/8", cup width including handle 4 1/4", saucer diameter 5 5/8", side plate diameter 6 1/4", total height 2 7/8".
