19th C. Gaudy Welsh Pottery Jug, Oyster Pattern.
Charming earthenware Gaudy Welsh jug or creamer imported from England. This folksy, unpretentious pottery was originally made in England and Wales between 1820 and 1860 for working class families and was not made to be perfect. It was thick and coarse, full of pitting and woefully out of shape.
Today it is highly collectible and this charming, rustic jug is a fine example. It displays hand painted decoration in cobalt blue, burnt orange and green, with touches of pink luster on an off white background.
There is a crack to the top of the rim. There is also crazing throughout. It has all the characteristic flaws you would expect to find which are shown in the pictures and only add to it's whimsical charm.
Dimensions: Height 4 3/8", width from handle to spout 5 1/2"
