19th Century Gaudy Welsh Cup, Mug. Oyster Pattern.
Small earthenware Gaudy Welsh mug or cup imported from England.
This folksy, unpretentious pottery was originally made in England and Wales between 1820 and 1860 for working class families and was not made to be perfect. It was thick and coarse, full of pitting and woefully out of shape.
Today it is highly collectible and this charming, rustic mug is a fine example. It displays hand painted decoration in cobalt blue, burnt orange & copper luster with touches of green on a white background.
There is no major damage or repairs. It has all the characteristic flaws you would expect to find which are shown in the pictures and only add to it's whimsical charm.
Dimensions: height 2 3/4", diameter 3 1/8".
