Antique Stoneware Warm Meat Lidded Tureen, Keeling & Co, English.
Rare and unusual stoneware warm meat lidded tureen with hot water compartment.
The underside of the lid and dish bear the early impressed mark of Keeling & Co. England, dating back to C.1880.
This unique piece of tableware has a hole with original stopper on one of the handles which allows the base to be filled with hot water in order to keep the meat in the dish warm. Almost like an early form of chaffing dish.
It is decorated with a simple and elegant gold pattern on a off white background.
There is some minor wear to the gold and a few small flea bite chips which are hardly noticeable. Over all it is in very nice condition with no cracks, breaks or crazing.
