Imposing in scale and beautifully proportioned, this 18th-century Georgian mahogany chest on chest is a fine example of traditional English cabinetmaking, offering exceptional storage within an elegant architectural form.

Constructed in two sections, the chest rises to an impressive 77 1/4" and is crowned with refined dentil molding. The upper section features two smaller drawers above three graduated drawers, while the lower chest provides a further three generously sized drawers.

Each drawer is framed with delicate cock-beaded trim and fitted with polished brass hardware, providing a subtle gleam against the deep, warm tones of the mahogany. The original drawer locks also remain in place, although the key is no longer present.

The chest has been professionally and sympathetically restored, bringing the rich mahogany grain back to life while carefully preserving the marks, repairs, and imperfections accumulated over more than two centuries. Particular attention has been given to the drawers, which now glide smoothly and easily.

Traditional bracket feet complete the classic Georgian silhouette, while the two-part construction makes this substantial piece considerably easier to move and position within the home.

A handsome and highly practical piece of Georgian furniture, combining impressive scale, beautiful craftsmanship, and eight spacious drawers with the warmth and individuality of a genuine 18th-century piece.

 

Condition

Very good antique condition.

Professionally and sympathetically restored to a beautiful standard while retaining the character appropriate to its age. Expected splits, dents, losses, marks, and areas of veneer repair remain present and form part of the chest's history and authentic appearance.

The drawers have been carefully restored and glide smoothly. The original drawer locks remain present, but there is no key.
