Rare Oversized Antique English Copper Hot Water Bottle Bed Warmer with Brass Handles

A fantastic and unusually large antique English copper hot water bottle bed warmer, featuring a wonderfully aged copper body, movable brass handles, and a traditional screw-top opening.

This impressive piece of English domestic history is a lovely reminder of a time when practical household objects were crafted from durable materials and designed to last for generations.

Unlike the more familiar long-handled copper bed warmers that were filled with hot coals, this distinctive design was intended to hold hot water, providing warmth during cold nights before modern central heating became commonplace.

The generously proportioned copper body has an appealing, softly rounded rectangular form, complemented by substantial movable brass handles and a screw-top closure. These practical details also contribute to its wonderful decorative appearance.

Over the years, the copper has developed a rich, naturally aged patina, with areas of verdigris, surface marks, and imperfections that give the piece an unmistakable sense of history and old-world charm.

Measuring an impressive 25 3/4 inches across including the handles, this oversized example makes a particularly striking decorative statement.

Perfect for display beside a fireplace, in a country kitchen, or as part of a collection of antique copperware, this unusual English bed warmer would bring warmth, character, and a fascinating touch of domestic history to any country cottage, farmhouse, or traditional interior.

Condition

Good antique condition with expected signs of age and use.

The copper displays a wonderful aged patina, with dings, surface wear, marks, scratches, and areas of verdigris throughout. These characteristics are consistent with its considerable age and former use and contribute to its authentic old-world charm.

The brass handles and screw-top fitting also display natural age-related wear and patination.

This piece is offered as a decorative antique. Its ability to hold water without leaking has not been verified, and it is not recommended for use as a functioning hot water bottle.
