Early 19th Century American Cherry Sheraton Washstand with Flame Mahogany Drawer

An absolutely gorgeous early 1800s American washstand crafted from solid cherrywood, with a beautiful flame mahogany drawer front and wooden knobs.

Made in the Sheraton style, the washstand features old dovetailed construction, a single drawer, lower shelf, tall backsplash, and lovely turned legs. The contrast between the warm cherrywood and richly figured flame mahogany drawer front gives this otherwise understated piece wonderful visual interest.

Originally created as a washstand, its compact proportions make it remarkably versatile for today's home. It would be a wonderful addition to an entryway or bedroom, or could even make a charming compact bar, with the lower shelf perfect for bottle storage and the top providing a useful preparation and serving surface.

Full of character and age, this is a fabulous piece of early American furniture with a beautifully developed patina and plenty of practical possibilities for modern use.

Condition

Good antique condition.

There is age-appropriate wear, marks, losses, checking, splitting, and imperfections throughout, all contributing to the authentic old-world character of this early 19th-century piece.

An excellent old repair has been carried out to the split top, as shown in images #7, #13 and #14. There is also cracking to the flame mahogany veneer, shown in image #12.

Overall, the washstand remains structurally strong and sturdy and has developed a lovely aged patina.

We have tried to show as much as possible in the photographs, so please zoom in and study them closely. Additional photographs are always available upon request.
