English Edwardian Inlaid Mahogany Dresser with Bow Front
An elegant early 20th-century English Edwardian dresser, beautifully crafted in mahogany with richly figured flame mahogany veneers and finely detailed satinwood and ebony inlay.
The dresser has a wonderfully balanced design, with three drawers to either side of a softly curved central bow front housing an additional drawer. Geometric bands of contrasting satinwood and ebony decorate the drawer fronts and top, highlighting the warm tones and beautiful figuring of the mahogany.
The six side drawers retain their original decorative brass handles, while the central drawer is fitted with complementary period metal handles that are old replacements. Slender straight legs continue the refined proportions of the piece and are accented with delicate inlaid stringing before terminating in their original small casters.
With seven drawers in total and a generous 54 1/4" wide surface, this is an attractive and practical piece of Edwardian furniture. Its relatively low 32 1/4" height also makes it versatile for use as a dresser, bedroom storage piece, or elegant console.
Condition
Good antique condition.
The dresser is strong and sturdy with a wonderful aged patina and expected age-appropriate wear, marks, small losses, and imperfections throughout, all contributing to its authentic old-world character.
Small filled holes in the top indicate that the dresser originally had a mirror or backsplash, which is no longer present.
