S. Mordan & Co. Sterling Silver & Ribbed Glass Flask, 1890–1891
A handsome late 19th-century English glass flask by the renowned S. Mordan & Co., combining beautifully ribbed glass with a hallmarked sterling silver top.
The compact flask has a gently curved form with vertical ribbing that catches the light beautifully and provides wonderful texture. The glass is finished with a substantial sterling silver top that has developed a soft aged patina, giving the piece the character expected from more than 130 years of history.
The silver bears the S. M & Co maker's mark for S. Mordan & Co., together with the lion passant for sterling silver, the leopard's head for London, and date letter "P," dating the piece to 1890–1891.
A fine example of late Victorian English craftsmanship and an appealing collectible for anyone with an interest in antique silver, barware, or unusual pieces of English social history.
Condition
Very good antique condition.
The glass is in excellent condition with no chips or cracks. The sterling silver displays age-appropriate wear, light patination, and oxidation, all contributing to the authentic character of the piece.
