Antique English Inlaid Mahogany, Marble Top and Back, Washstand c.1900

Antique English Mahogany Inlaid Washstand with Marble Top & Backsplash

An elegant antique English mahogany washstand featuring rich mahogany veneers, fine inlaid detailing, and a striking gray and brown marble top with a complementary marble backsplash.

Raised on slender tapered legs, the cabinet features two paneled doors opening to useful enclosed storage. The warm, richly figured mahogany has developed a beautiful aged patina, while the delicate inlay adds understated decorative detail without overwhelming the clean proportions of the piece.

The original marble top and tall backsplash are particularly attractive, with natural gray and brown veining that complements the warmth of the mahogany beautifully.

Dating from the late 19th to early 20th century, this was originally designed as a washstand but is wonderfully versatile for today's home. It could be used as a side cabinet, hall cupboard, accent piece, or even as an elegant compact bar, with the marble providing a practical surface for serving and preparation.

The combination of polished marble, richly figured mahogany, delicate inlay, and useful storage makes this a beautiful and practical piece of antique English furniture.

Condition

Very good antique condition.

The mahogany retains a rich color and attractive aged patina, with minor surface wear, light marks, and age-related imperfections consistent with normal use over many decades.

There is some age-related warping at the rear of the cabinet, as shown in image #6. This does not affect the structural integrity of the piece.

The marble top and backsplash are well preserved with beautiful natural veining and minor signs of age and use, including some chipping and wear.

The cabinet doors operate as intended, and overall the piece remains sturdy and ready for use.

We have tried to show as much as possible in the photographs, so please zoom in and study them closely. Additional photographs are always available upon request.
