Antique Victorian Cranberry Glass & Sterling Silver Bowl by J. Wilmot, 1899
A delightful Victorian hand-blown cranberry glass bowl beautifully mounted with a sterling silver rim and ornate handles, hallmarked for J. Wilmot of Birmingham, England, 1899.
The rich cranberry glass gives this petite bowl wonderful depth and warmth, while the contrasting sterling silver mount adds an elegant decorative flourish. Gracefully shaped handles extend from either side of the silver rim, creating a refined silhouette characteristic of fine late Victorian tableware.
The combination of hand-blown colored glass and hallmarked English sterling silver makes this an especially appealing example of late 19th-century craftsmanship. Its compact proportions make it perfect for displaying on a dressing table, sideboard, or within a collection of antique silver and glass.
With its beautifully aged character, vibrant cranberry coloring, and precisely dated Birmingham hallmark, this charming bowl offers both decorative appeal and a tangible connection to Victorian England.
Condition
Good antique condition.
The bowl displays age-appropriate wear consistent with its more than 125 years of history. There is a chip and associated flaw near the rim, shown in photographs #9, #10, and #11. This does not affect the structural integrity of the bowl.
The cranberry glass retains its beautiful rich color, while the sterling silver displays the gentle patina expected from an antique piece of this age.
Please review all photographs carefully, as they are considered part of the description and provide additional details regarding the glass, silver mount, hallmarks, noted chip and flaw, and overall condition of this antique piece.
