Antique French Aurillac Copper Cauldron with Brass Handle

A delightful antique French copper cauldron with a wonderfully warm, aged finish, distinctive rounded form, and graceful brass swing handle.

The front is prominently marked AURILLAC beneath a small brass crown and coat of arms emblem, giving the piece an especially attractive decorative detail and connecting it to the historic copperworking tradition of Aurillac in the Cantal region of Auvergne, France.

Aurillac has a long tradition of copperworking, with local craftsmen producing practical household and culinary vessels such as cauldrons and other kitchen wares. This charming piece reflects that utilitarian heritage with its sturdy rounded body, flared base, and substantial swing handle.

The copper has developed a rich, naturally aged patina rather than being polished to an artificially bright finish. Together with the contrasting brass handle and coat of arms, it has exactly the sort of authentic French farmhouse character that makes old copper so appealing.

Condition

Good antique condition.

There are expected surface marks, patina, discoloration, and signs of age and use associated with an old copper vessel. The copper has intentionally not been polished to a bright finish, allowing its naturally aged character to remain.
