Late 19th Century Carved Mahogany Balloon Back Side Chair

A beautiful late 19th-century carved mahogany balloon back side chair featuring an elegantly shaped back, carved central splat, and graceful cabriole front legs.

The mahogany has developed a lovely warm, aged patina over more than a century of use, with the natural wear, dings, and imperfections giving the chair the authentic character expected of an antique piece.

The seat has been reupholstered at some point in a neutral cream-colored fabric. Although not original, the understated fabric complements the warm mahogany beautifully and remains clean with only very minimal marks and wear.

Comfortable as well as decorative, the seat remains supportive and the chair is strong and sturdy. Its elegant proportions make it a lovely occasional chair for a bedroom, dressing table, hallway, desk, or as additional seating in a living space.

Condition

Good antique condition.

The mahogany displays age-appropriate wear, dings, marks, and imperfections throughout, contributing to its lovely aged patina.

There are old repairs to both sides of the upper back rail where it connects to the side rails. These repairs are well executed and remain strong. The cream upholstery is not original but is clean and displays very minimal marks and wear.

The seat remains comfortable and supportive, and overall the chair is strong, sturdy, and ready for use.
