Antique Nippon Hand Painted Porcelain Hat Pin Holder – Morimura Era Japanese Vanity Accessory
Antique Hand-Painted Nippon Porcelain Hat Pin Holder with Attached Hexagonal Tray – Blue Floral & Gold Gilt Decoration
A charming and unusual antique Japanese Nippon porcelain hat pin holder, featuring delicate hand-painted blue and turquoise floral decoration, elegant gold gilt accents, and a distinctive attached hexagonal tray.
Dating to the Nippon period of approximately 1891–1921, this beautiful little vanity accessory reflects the delicate craftsmanship and decorative artistry associated with Japanese export porcelain of the late Victorian and Edwardian eras.
The design features a slender, pierced porcelain holder rising from the center of a matching hexagonal tray-like base. The openings were intended to accommodate the long decorative hat pins that were fashionable during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Soft blue and turquoise floral motifs decorate both the upright holder and surrounding tray, creating a beautifully coordinated design. Fine gold gilding highlights the edges, while delicate raised gold accents add texture and a lovely touch of elegance.
The underside bears a blue "Hand Painted NIPPON" backstamp, identifying the piece as Japanese export porcelain from the period when the name Nippon was commonly used on wares destined for the American market.
Morimura Brothers were among the prominent exporters of Japanese porcelain during this period, helping establish the popularity of finely decorated Nippon wares in American homes.
The attached tray is a particularly appealing feature, giving this little piece a distinctive architectural form while providing a decorative base for the upright hat pin holder.
Today, this charming antique would make a lovely addition to a collection of Nippon porcelain, antique hat pins, or Victorian and Edwardian vanity accessories. It would also display beautifully on a dressing table, bedroom shelf, or within a collection of delicate hand-painted porcelain.
A delightful survivor of a bygone era, combining beautiful hand-painted decoration, an unusual design, and the nostalgic charm of antique dressing-table accessories.
Condition
Good antique condition, with expected signs of age and use.
The hand-painted blue and turquoise floral decoration remains attractive, with some wear to the gold gilding consistent with the piece's age.
There is minor discoloration and age-related marking to the underside, where the blue "Hand Painted NIPPON" backstamp is present.
Overall, a charming antique porcelain accessory with a lovely aged appearance.
Please review all photographs carefully, particularly the gilding, porcelain surfaces, and underside markings, as they form an important part of the description. Additional photographs are always available upon request.
