Antique Pair of 19th Century Hand Painted Continental Porcelain Figurines
Pair of Antique 19th Century Hand-Painted Continental Porcelain Figurines
An exquisite pair of 19th-century Continental porcelain figurines, beautifully hand-painted and depicting an elegantly dressed gentleman and lady in coordinating period attire.
Standing an impressive 8 3/4 inches tall, the figures are wonderfully detailed, from their expressive poses and elaborate Rococo-revival costumes to the delicate hand-painted decoration. A soft palette of pastel orange and yellow is complemented by subtle additional colors, creating a warm and refined appearance that allows the intricate modeling to take center stage.
The gentleman and lady are dressed in matching period costume, giving the pair a wonderful sense of balance when displayed together. Their graceful forms, delicate features, and carefully modeled clothing reflect the decorative porcelain traditions that flourished throughout Continental Europe during the 19th century.
An embossed maker's mark is present on the underside; however, despite research, we have been unable to confidently identify the manufacturer. We therefore prefer to leave the maker unattributed rather than speculate.
Whether displayed together on a mantel, within a china cabinet, or incorporated into a collection of European porcelain, this handsome pair offers wonderful decorative presence and authentic Old World charm.
Condition
Excellent antique condition.
Both figurines have been remarkably well preserved with no cracks or notable marks. There is expected age-related wear to the undersides of the bases consistent with their 19th-century age.
Please review all photographs carefully, as they are considered part of the description and provide additional details regarding the hand-painted decoration, modeling, unidentified embossed mark, base wear, and overall condition of this antique pair.
Additional photographs are always available upon request.
