Antique Ruffled Epergne Green & Pink Crackled Art Glass with Ornate Bronze Base
19th Century Crackle Glass Epergne with Bronze Base
A striking 19th-century epergne combining delicate crackle art glass with an ornate bronze base and a wonderfully soft palette of pink and green.
Rising to an impressive 17 1/2" tall, the epergne features a slender central glass vase surrounded by a generously sized bowl with a beautifully ruffled edge. Subtle pink and green coloring flows through the crackled glass, giving the piece a light, almost floral quality that changes beautifully as it catches the light.
The glass is supported by a substantial decorative bronze base, providing both stability and a rich contrast to the delicate form and coloring above. Over time, the bronze has developed an attractive natural patina that complements the aged character of the piece.
Originally designed as an elaborate centerpiece for displaying flowers, an epergne such as this would have brought color and height to a formal Victorian table. Today, its sculptural form makes it equally beautiful displayed on a dining table, sideboard, mantel, or console.
A wonderfully decorative survivor with impressive scale, unusual coloring, and plenty of 19th-century character.
Condition
Very good antique condition.
The glass is in excellent overall condition. There is one tiny fleabite nick to the edge of the bowl that is not readily visible to the naked eye but can be felt with a fingertip. No other notable damage to the glass was observed.
The bronze base and lower vase section display expected age-appropriate wear and patination, adding to the authentic character of the piece.
Please review all photographs carefully, as they are considered part of the description and provide additional details regarding the glass, bronze, patina, wear, and overall condition.
