Gérard Ribierre Limoges Millennium Globe Trinket Box with Four Bears, 1999–2000

A highly collectible hand-painted Limoges porcelain trinket box by Gérard Ribierre (G.R.), created to commemorate the change of the millennium from 1999 to 2000.

Wonderfully whimsical in design, the box takes the form of a globe with four charming bears seated around the top, celebrating the arrival of the new millennium. The hinged globe is finished with decorative brass trim and a particularly delightful Millennium flag clasp to the front.

Opening the lid reveals a white porcelain interior subtly hand painted with the sun rising through the clouds, symbolizing the dawn of a new century and providing a lovely hidden detail inside the box.

The globe rests upon a brown pedestal base accented in gold, completing the miniature world design beautifully.

The underside is marked "Peint Main Limoges France G.R." Peint Main denotes that the piece was hand painted, while the G.R. mark is associated with Gérard Ribierre, a recognized Limoges artist and maker known for his finely detailed porcelain trinket and keepsake boxes.

This unusual millennium-themed example combines traditional Limoges craftsmanship with a wonderfully memorable moment in modern history. A delightful addition to a collection of Limoges boxes and an especially appealing keepsake for anyone with a connection to the year 2000.
