A beautiful late 19th-century porcelain cake plate by Z.S. & Co. of Bavaria, featuring delicate hand-painted roses against a softly graduated background.
The plate transitions from a pale green at one edge to crisp white at the opposite side, creating a wonderfully subtle backdrop for two beautifully painted roses in shades of soft and deep pink surrounded by green foliage.
Dating to circa 1890, the underside bears the Z.S. & Co. Bavaria maker's mark. At an impressive 13 1/8" in diameter, it offers generous proportions for serving cakes, pastries, sandwiches, or other treats while being equally attractive displayed on a stand or in a collection of hand-painted porcelain.
A lovely example of late 19th-century Bavarian tableware with a romantic floral design that remains just as appealing today.
Condition
Good antique condition with expected signs of previous use.
There are superficial scratches to areas of the painted rose and leaf decoration, together with a couple of tiny brown spots originating from the firing process. These imperfections are consistent with the age and handmade nature of the piece and do not detract from its overall beauty.
There are no noted chips or cracks.
