An exceptional original mid-century modern walnut nightstand designed by renowned American designer Mel Smilow for Smilow-Thielle of New York during the 1950s. Celebrated for his clean, functional designs and outstanding craftsmanship, Mel Smilow created furniture that has become highly sought after by collectors of authentic mid-century modern design.

Beautifully crafted from walnut, this rectangular nightstand features a single drawer with clean, understated lines and stands on classic tapered mid-century legs. Its minimalist form highlights the quality of the materials and construction, allowing the rich walnut grain and warm original finish to take center stage.

Adding to its appeal is its wonderful provenance. This nightstand has remained with its original owners since the 1950s, when they purchased several pieces from the Smilow-Thielle collection to furnish their first home together in New York. Condition

Very good vintage condition.

The nightstand is solid, sturdy, and structurally sound. It retains its original warm walnut finish with a beautiful aged patina and displays only minor age-appropriate marks, wear, and small dings consistent with careful vintage use.

The drawer operates smoothly, and the legs unscrew for easier transportation and shipping.
