Italian Gentleman's Dresser with Secretary Desk and Mirror
This distinguished petite vintage Italian gentleman's dresser with secretary desk was made in Italy for Bamberger's of New Jersey, the iconic department store that later became part of the Macy's family in 1929. Combining exceptional craftsmanship with thoughtful functionality, this elegant piece beautifully blends European design with a fascinating chapter of American retail history.
Expertly crafted with richly figured burled walnut veneer over solid wood construction, the dresser showcases the dramatic swirling grain patterns for which burl walnut is so highly prized. The warm wood tones are complemented by brass trim on the drawer fronts and paneled sides, while the original Art Deco-inspired aged brass hardware enhances its refined character.
The upper section features a single arched mirrored door that opens to reveal a useful interior complete with a tie rack. The door retains its original working lock and key, providing both functionality and period authenticity.
Concealed behind the slant-front drop-down writing surface is a compact secretary interior fitted with small drawers and storage cubbies, creating the perfect space for correspondence, journaling, organizing important documents, or storing personal treasures. The drawers remain lined with their original designer paper, adding another charming period detail.

Condition
Very good vintage condition.
The dresser is solid, sturdy, and structurally sound with age-appropriate wear consistent with careful vintage use. The mirror displays slight oxidation, best shown in photograph #4, while a professional repair is present at the upper right corner of the drop-down writing surface near the hinge, visible in photograph #11.
Overall, the piece has been well cared for and presents beautifully while retaining the authentic character expected of a vintage Italian cabinet.
