A beautiful and wonderfully charming antique porcelain trinket or ring box by Karl Ens of Volkstedt, Germany, dating to approximately 1900–1919.

This petite round box features a delightful pastoral scene on the lid depicting a young woman dressed in dusky pink, seated peacefully in a meadow as she knits while her sheep graze in the countryside behind her. The romantic subject and softly colored decoration give the piece an unmistakable Old World charm.

Karl Ens took over his father's porcelain factory in 1890, and under his leadership the company flourished, becoming internationally recognized for its finely crafted and intricately decorated porcelain. Today, Karl Ens pieces remain sought after by collectors for their distinctive designs, quality craftsmanship, and connection to the celebrated porcelain-making tradition of the Thuringia region of Germany.

At just 2 3/4 inches in diameter, this delightful little box is perfectly sized for rings, earrings, or other small treasures. It would also make a lovely addition to a dressing table, display cabinet, or collection of antique German porcelain.

A rare and enchanting survivor from the early 20th century combining fine porcelain craftsmanship with a beautifully nostalgic pastoral scene.

 

Condition

Excellent antique condition.

The box has been very well preserved with expected minor manufacturing characteristics and imperfections, including areas of pitting and small marks associated with the porcelain production process of the period.
